A Legacy of Excellence

American College, Madurai, has stood as a beacon of liberal education in South India for nearly a century and a half, shaping leaders, thinkers and changemakers.

Our Story

History & Heritage

American College, Madurai, was established in 1881 by the American Ceylon Mission under the visionary leadership of missionaries committed to liberal education in Tamil Nadu. From a modest beginning as a school, it grew into a distinguished arts and science college affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University.

Today, the institution stands as one of the most respected names in higher education across South India, accredited at the A++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognised under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act.

Our alumni include jurists, parliamentarians, scientists, writers and captains of industry β€” a testament to the rigour of our pedagogy and the values of our founders.
